The additional critical illnesses covered

Angioplasty

Covers angioplasty treatment to two or more coronary arteries with a blockage of at least 70%.

Keyhole coronary artery bypass surgery

Covers heart bypass surgery which involves less invasive surgery than that in the coronary artery bypass definition.

Less extensive third-degree burns

Covers serious burns which cover less of the body than in the third-degree burns definition.

Loss of, or the loss of use of, one eye

Covers the complete loss of one eye, or permanent loss of sight in one eye, which is not covered by the blindness definition.

Loss of either one hand or one foot

Covers the loss of one hand or foot due to disease or accident, which is not covered by the loss of hands or feet definition.

Low-grade prostate cancer

Covers prostate cancer with a Gleason score between 2 and 6 inclusive or a TNM classification of T1N0M0, which would not be covered by the cancer definition.

Mastectomy for DCIS

Covers mastectomy due to ductal carcinoma in situ, a non-invasive form of breast cancer which is not covered by the cancer definition.

Permanent pacemaker insertion

Covers having a pacemaker inserted to correct an abnormal heart rhythm.

Significant visual impairment

Covers a lower level of loss of sight than the blindness definition.
